Saturday August 2nd marked the 19th annual Krockathon in Syracuse, NY. This event brings thousands of people from all around the state to the NYS Fairgrounds. For the 2nd year in a row the show was held in Chevy Court. With two stages side by side, the music didn't stop from 12pm until 10pm. The first bands on the lineup Blacklite District and Starset did a good job or keeping people entertained in the early hours. After the first two bands, We As Human took the stage. This band was on last years Carnival of Madness with Shinedown and Papa Roach. We As Human was definitely a surprise to people who have never heard them before. After We As Human played, Framing Hanley took over and during their set the crowd started to funnel in.
The parking lot tailgating came to a halt this year shortly before 3pm because of one chick. That chick's name is Lzzy Hale and her band is Halestorm. A crowd favorite, Halestorm came out and brought tremendous amounts of energy. Once their set was over, the attention shifted stages for Chris Jericho's band Fozzy. Before taking the stage you could hear the entire crowd chanting Y2J, his nickname for the WWE.
The next band to hit the stage was Saliva. Even after a lineup change that brought a new singer to the group, Saliva sounded incredible. This was one band that really surprised me and would definitely recommend not to miss in the future. Black Stone Cherry who is no stranger to the Syracuse Fairgrounds took the stage shortly after. Anyone who went to see Korn at the State Fair last year saw Black Stone Cherry open the show and both times they got the audience ready for the headlining bands.
Right after 5pm a familiar face to Krockathon hit the stage, All That Remains. Having played the show last year, the band knew how to get the pits opened up. The entire set gave security work to do by catching never ending waves of crowd surfers. It's easy to see watching their set why KROCK reaches out to them so often to play the festival. The next band was Pop Evil. Touring behind their recent release Onyx, Pop Evil filled their set with recent radio hits. The crowd erupted for "Deal With The Devil" and "Trenches", both popular KROCK songs.
After Pop Evil ended, crowd favorite A Day To Remember took the stage. Coming out with a giant confetti bang, ADTR ripped through their hits. Halfway through the set, singer Jeremy McKinnon jumped down from the stage and brought some love to the crowd in the first couple rows. ADTR was definitely the band that most people were there to see and they lived up to the expectation. With the smoke machines, confetti and crazy energy, ADTR could have easily been the headliners for Krockathon 19.
Last but certainly not least was Seether. Seether headlined this show because they're hard rock veterans and have many more festival appearances under their belt. With their recent release of "Isolate and Medicate", Seether has been on the road and were at the top of their game. Playing hit after hit, Seether pulled a fast one on the crowd that should have been well predicted in the future. Seether's hit "Broken", a song that has over 13 million plays on Spotify, has been played with Lzzy Hale of Halestorm on past tours. It was unsure though if the duet would happen because Halestorm was scheduled to play in New Mexico the very next day. Well to everyone's surprise, Lzzy came out on stage and with Shaun Morgan of Seether and played "Broken". It was a moment everyone had their phones and cameras out to capture. The moment was made even more special when Lzzy forgot the first 2 lines of her verse and was quickly assisted by the crowd. Regardless of the mess up, Lzzy finished the song strong and Seether shortly after ended the night with "Remedy".
After the 19th Krockathon, there's already talks about who will be playing the 20th annual one. Will there be bands from the past? Or will KROCK try and bring even bigger names to the bill for their first Krockathon?
